Research cutoff: · Updated:Understanding the production chain
Mobarakeh’s technical documentation describes a manufacturing system extending from raw-material handling through ironmaking and sheet processing. Its ironmaking section identifies rail deliveries from mining areas in Kerman, Yazd and Razavi Khorasan provinces. This connects the complex to a broader supply network rather than a single nearby source of ore. s2
The company’s own descriptions are useful evidence of its production model, but they are not an independent operating audit. They should also be distinguished from group-wide statistics: the corporate website separately identifies group companies, so a consolidated total should not automatically be attributed to one plant. s1
[s1] [s2]Making sponge iron
Pelletizing prepares iron-bearing material for the reduction stage. Mobarakeh describes mixing fine materials and binders, forming pellets, and hardening them before direct reduction. In that next stage, gases made from methane react with oxygen in the pellets. The product is sponge iron, also called direct-reduced iron, which is transferred onward to steelmaking. s2
This sequence explains why ore supplies and natural gas are both significant inputs. It also prevents a common misunderstanding: sponge-iron tonnage is an intermediate output, not a measure of finished sheet supplied to customers. The company describes several linked units; their individual capacities cannot simply be added to calculate final production. s2
[s2]Why finishing matters
Cold rolling reduces the thickness of steel strip and changes its mechanical properties. Mobarakeh’s cold-rolling description explains a sequence involving surface preparation, rolling, cleaning and heat treatment. Pickling removes oxide scale from hot-rolled material; annealing helps obtain the properties needed for subsequent forming and finishing. s3
Coating creates further product distinctions. The documented product families include galvanized, tin-coated and prepainted material. These are different processing routes rather than consecutive steps that every coil must follow. A useful account of the company therefore needs more than a total tonnage: product specifications and the division between rolled and coated output also matter. s3
[s3]Selected sheet-processing routes described by Mobarakeh
This simplified diagram follows selected routes in the company’s technical description. Arrows indicate material processing, not ownership or reporting relationships; the diagram omits other finishing operations and does not establish current line availability.
[s3]A documented processing investment
An October 2006 AIST report records the startup of Techint processing lines at Mobarakeh, including pickling and acid-regeneration equipment. The account also describes work on electric furnaces and hot-strip-mill equipment. It provides a dated example of investment across several stages of the manufacturing chain. s4
The report includes supplier claims about process and environmental benefits. Those claims should remain attributed: a project announcement does not substitute for measured emissions, wastewater records or a later performance assessment. Likewise, historical startup confirms neither uninterrupted operation nor present capacity. s4
The supported picture is of a producer whose capabilities depend on linked preparation, reduction and finishing stages. A publication-ready contemporary profile still requires verified operating disclosures, a consistent annual production series and evidence on resource use and workforce outcomes.

limitations
- This is a technical profile, not a verified account of current operations.
- Undated company descriptions were inspected after the cutoff, and their exact pre-cutoff versions were not established.
- The diagram is a simplified technical explanation, not an audited plant flowsheet.
- Current entity status remains null because operating continuity at the cutoff was not verified.
unverified items
- Plant-level operating, damage and reconstruction status on 2026-10-26.
- Current ownership, governance and consolidated group boundaries.
- Independent evidence on water consumption, emissions, workplace conditions and environmental outcomes.
- Current telephone, email and postal contact details.
data gaps
- No comparable annual company series for the default 2012–2026 window was established.
- Plant, company and consolidated group output must be reconciled before creating a production chart.
- Dated annual reports, securities filings and operating disclosures are required to complete the contemporary profile.
