Point-of-Sale Manufacturers

Iran's point-of-sale equipment sector includes documented domestic assembly alongside equipment supply and support. A factory report on Tosan Techno illustrates why assembly, component production, and plans for deeper localization must be distinguished.

What domestic production means

The term “Iranian card reader” needs careful interpretation. A factory visit published in Solar Hijri year 1397 described Tosan Techno assembling PAX payment terminals at the Caspian industrial estate near Qazvin. The reported work included assembling components, testing, quality control, and packaging. This is evidence of an operating assembly process at a particular site and time; it does not establish that every component was made domestically. s1

The same account separated that observed activity from proposed later stages. Company management described plans to produce terminal housings and subsequently undertake printed-circuit-board production and surface-mount assembly, in which electronic components are mounted onto boards. Those stages were presented as future developments. The report cannot establish their eventual completion. s1

Hardware and the service relationship

Equipment supply also has a merchant-facing dimension. SEP's terminal catalogue distinguishes Wi-Fi, computer-connected, wired-network, Android, and cellular-connected devices. These categories describe different combinations of connectivity, software platform, and integration; they should not be read as a list of domestic manufacturers. s2

The catalogue also presents installation, support, and online reporting as parts of the terminal offering. For an international reader, that distinction matters: the business presenting a card reader to a merchant may be delivering payment acceptance and maintenance rather than documenting the machine's manufacturing origin. A product catalogue supports statements about offered equipment and services, but does not independently prove component provenance or production depth. s2

A measured reading of localization

The factory evidence supports a specific conclusion: domestic assembly and associated quality-control work formed part of this company's payment-terminal activity. It also shows that management treated localization as a sequence of industrial steps. Assembly, housing production, and circuit-board work therefore need separate evidence rather than a single undifferentiated “made locally” label. s1

A current industry account requires newer factory documentation, product-origin records, and comparable output figures. Until those are inspected, the historical example should remain a bounded case study rather than a claim about the entire Iranian market.

limitations

  • The manufacturing account is a historical case study, not a current census of producers.
  • The factory report combines reporter observations with attributed management plans; subsequent completion was not verified.
  • Tosan Techno's corporate website was inaccessible during research.
  • The undated SEP catalogue was accessed after the cutoff and is not an archived cutoff-date record.

unverified items

  • Completion of the announced housing, circuit-board, and surface-mount production stages.
  • Current manufacturers, factory status, product certifications, component origins, and domestic-content shares.

data gaps

  • No comparable annual production series for 2012–2026 was inspected.
  • Reported production capacity is not actual annual output and has not been converted into a production dataset.
  • No defensible annual series of domestic production, imports, or replacement demand was available in the inspected evidence.
