Research cutoff: · Updated:Several ways to classify a channel
A television network guide needs more than a list of names. The first distinction is organizational: Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting, or IRIB, is the umbrella institution, while individual services have their own identities. The next distinctions concern intended audience and programming. News, drama, cultural shows, and other formats should not be treated as equivalent simply because they appear on television. State Media Monitor's inspected inventory separates IRIB's national, regional, and international services. s1
That inventory names national services including TV1, TV2, TV3, TV4, TV5, the news network IRINN, and specialist services such as Varzesh, Namayesh, and Nasim. It is useful as an orientation, but not a substitute for checking each channel's current official identity, schedule, and reception arrangements. This page therefore does not present its list as a complete operational directory. s1
[s1]International news and entertainment
Press TV is a clear example of a service defined partly by language and audience. Its own description identifies an international English-language news operation, supported by newsroom, website, program, and documentary departments. This establishes its stated format and organizational functions, rather than independently verifying its claims about reporting quality. s2
The English-language iFilm website illustrates a different editorial proposition. It organizes viewing around series, movies, and shows, and offers a separate schedule. Program descriptions introduce fictional characters and storylines, while cultural sections cover subjects including artists, music, and tourism. These features make it possible to distinguish an entertainment-oriented service from a news network without assigning either an invented audience share. s3
Language labels also require care. iFilm's inspected site links to Persian and Arabic versions alongside its English service. A network brand can therefore encompass different language-facing websites; a title alone does not establish that every version carries identical programs, translations, or schedules. Those details need service-specific verification. s3
[s2] [s3]A channel is different from a reception route
The iFilm website separates live viewing, schedules, and frequencies into different navigation items. This is a helpful distinction for understanding television distribution: a channel's identity, its program timetable, and the technical means of receiving it are separate pieces of information. A website can document the existence of a viewing interface without proving that it is accessible in every country or on every device. s3
For a reliable directory, each entry should consequently be checked at the level of the particular service: official name, language, program remit, schedule, and dated reception information. Third-party inventories can help identify candidates, but should not silently become proof of current availability. The sources inspected support the distinctions and examples above; a full domestic and provincial channel directory still requires further primary-source verification. s1s2s3

limitations
- This is a supported orientation, not a complete national or provincial channel directory.
- State Media Monitor was used only for its channel inventory; unrelated assertions in that profile were not adopted.
- The live iFilm site contained material after the research cutoff; individual contemporary program listings were excluded.
- Reception endpoints and stream availability were not tested.
unverified items
- Official current remits, names, and operating status of each domestic specialist channel.
- A verified provincial channel inventory and channel-specific language provision.
- Service-specific transmission methods and dated reception availability.
- A documented account of non-IRIB television services watched inside Iran.
data gaps
- No consistent annual channel-level audience or reach series was established for 2012–2026.
- Channel inventories were not converted into annual counts because coverage and operational definitions were not verified.
