From source code to a working service

A software product has an operational life beyond the moment its code is written. Changes must be assembled, checked, delivered, and observed after release. Continuous integration and continuous delivery, usually abbreviated CI/CD, organize part of that journey into repeatable automated work. GitLab's documentation describes pipelines whose jobs can build applications, run tests, and deploy code. These are capabilities of the tooling; they do not establish how widely Iranian organizations use it. s1

This distinction matters when exploring Iran's technology businesses. A product demonstration can establish that a pipeline runs, while a claim about national adoption requires evidence from organizations or a representative survey. The sources inspected for this page support an explanation of the infrastructure, rather than a ranking of Iranian operators or an estimate of their market size.

Different tools answer different questions

Pipeline tools organize work around a change: what should run, in what order, and under which conditions? GitLab Runner supplies the execution side, receiving jobs and reporting their results. A repository server and the machines executing its jobs therefore have different responsibilities, even when one organization operates both. s1s2

Container management addresses the running application. Kubernetes coordinates containerized workloads through declared configurations and automation. It does not replace every surrounding system: its overview explicitly distinguishes orchestration from building source code, prescribing a complete monitoring stack, or providing every application-level service. A release pipeline and a workload platform are complementary layers. s3

Monitoring asks whether a service is behaving acceptably. Google's site reliability engineering guidance distinguishes measurements taken inside a system from checks of its externally visible behavior. It emphasizes latency, traffic, errors, and saturation as useful signals. Logs supply event detail that can help explain a symptom, but collecting more records is not the same as establishing that users can complete a task. s4

A simplified delivery and feedback loop

This editorial synthesis shows how automated execution and operational feedback can connect. It is a conceptual workflow, not a documented architecture of an Iranian organization or a claim that every deployment follows this sequence.

Automation creates responsibilities

Delivery infrastructure handles powerful permissions. GitLab warns that runners execute repository-defined code and can expose their hosts, other projects, or credentials if isolation is inadequate. The security boundary therefore extends beyond the application being built to the build environment itself. s5

Secrets management is another separate discipline. Kubernetes provides Secret objects for confidential values, but base64 encoding is not encryption. Its guidance calls for encryption at rest and restricted access. Merely placing a password in a platform's designated object does not demonstrate that the surrounding permissions and storage are secure. s6

Together, these distinctions explain the branches of this guide: pipelines automate change; containers organize execution; monitoring and logs support understanding; secrets management protects access; and DevOps services help organizations integrate those responsibilities. They also provide concrete subjects for assessing a service provider: demonstrable execution, understandable failure handling, controlled credentials, and evidence of operating the resulting system. These are evaluation questions derived from the documented responsibilities, rather than verified claims about any Iranian supplier. s1s3s4s5s6

limitations

  • This draft establishes technical distinctions but lacks sufficient Iran-specific organizational evidence for a complete national overview.
  • Live documentation was inspected on 2026-10-27, after the requested cutoff. Its exact wording and feature coverage on 2026-10-26 were not independently established.
  • The diagram is an explicitly labeled editorial synthesis, not an observed production architecture.

unverified items

  • Documented Iranian implementations across different industries and organization sizes.
  • Regional differences within Iran, provider capabilities, and independently verified operating outcomes.
  • Historical source versions establishing the requested cutoff.

data gaps

  • No comparable annual Iranian series for CI/CD adoption, deployment frequency, operational reliability, or DevOps service revenue was verified. No proxy adoption chart has been constructed.

coverage period

Conceptual technical documentation inspected on 2026-10-27; Iran-specific coverage through 2026-10-26 remains incomplete.
