A digital book can belong to different systems

Digital publishing is best understood here through contrasting examples rather than a single national market narrative. Fidibo's inspected storefront separates electronic books, audiobooks, magazines, and podcasts. Ganjoor, by contrast, describes itself as a free, noncommercial collection of Persian-language poetry. These services answer different questions: where to obtain a contemporary edition, and where to search a literary corpus. Their existence does not establish how many people buy or read digital books across Iran. s1s2

The storefront and archive were inspected after the editorial cutoff. They provide evidence of their displayed functions and stated purposes, but their undated pages cannot establish an exact October 26 snapshot. No catalog totals, prices, or market rankings are therefore presented as cutoff-date facts. s1s2

Publishers and platforms have distinct roles

Taaghche describes a distribution relationship in which a publisher supplies a book or magazine after obtaining publication authorization and an ISBN, the international book identifier. The platform says it handles digital optimization and provides publishers with tools and reporting. This is Taaghche's account of its own workflow, rather than an independently verified description of every Iranian digital publisher. s3

That distinction matters when interpreting a digital catalog. A platform's involvement in preparing and distributing an edition does not by itself identify who selected the manuscript, edited the text, or holds every relevant right. Taaghche's description supports separating the publisher's role from the platform's delivery role; it does not supply the underlying contracts or demonstrate industry-wide compliance. s3

Searchability does not settle textual authority

Ganjoor organizes poetry by poet and work and allows searches within the collection. Its own account emphasizes freely available sources, source references associated with poems, and the release of reusable databases. It describes the project as independent of government and private organizations. These are the archive's stated arrangements, not a measure of the wider digital publishing economy. s2

Its frequently asked questions explain a less visible part of digitization: deciding which text is being reproduced. Manuscript copying introduced differences through difficult handwriting, unfamiliar vocabulary, and deliberate changes. Printed editions inherited different readings, and Ganjoor cautions that its text is not necessarily the uniquely correct version. A searchable poem should therefore be treated as an identifiable textual witness, with its source edition checked when wording or attribution matters. s4

For international readers, the practical lesson is to identify the kind of resource before interpreting what it offers. A commercial catalog documents editions available through a service; an archive provides access to a selected corpus. Neither alone supplies evidence about nationwide readership, regional access, or the completeness of Persian literature online. s1s2s4
